Setting Up

Follow these steps to run the TeleFinder Server.

• Select a location to install the software. Typically, this is the root level of the hard disk. Copy the "TeleFinder Server" folder from the CD to the desired location on your computer's hard disk. If installing from an Internet download, open the TeleFinder "sea" file and decompress the files into the desired location.
  • Double-click on the file "TeleFinder Server" application icon from within the TeleFinder Server folder. TeleFinder Server will automatically launch the User Manager and Mail Server programs.

User Manager will open the TeleUsers database. It should display the list of users registered with your system. Leave this window and program open so that the other programs can access user information. You can "hide" User Manager in the background if you want.

Mail Server links to User Manager so that it can process E-mail for the BBS.

TeleFinder Server links to User Manager so that it can access names, passwords, and privilege information.

  • Start the Web Server.

    • Select the "Server Settings" command from the Web menu to open the Web Settings dialog. Then click on the "Server" icon to display the Server pane.

    • Turn the Web Server Master Switch on to enable the Web Server.

    • Click in the OK button to make the change take effect, and start the Web Server.

  • Start a BBS Node.

A BBS Node Settings file contains preferences and communications settings necessary for establishing reliable connections to your BBS.

    • Select the "Open Node" command from the File menu. This opens the "Open" dialog
    • Select "Modem Node 1" from the list of files. Or, select TCP Node 1 if you'd prefer a network node.

The Modem Node 1 file is configured for a Hayes modem. Please see Installing the BBS in the on-line documentation for information on configuring the software for your specific modem.

    • Click in the Open button to open the Node Settings file.

  • Your System is Online!

TeleFinder should now be ready to explore via a Web Browser, or the TeleFinder client software. Point your favorite client at your system and get connected!
